Police Community Support Officers in Wrexham town centre who have been subjected to abuse, including being spat at, are now trialling body worn video cameras from Edesix.
The number of incidents is a concern to Wrexham Police Inspector Paul Wycherley, who hopes that the use of body cameras will deter offenders and reduce attacks against officers.
VideoBadge users typically find that behaviour is moderated when a person knows they are being recorded, but if they persist, their actions are captured for evidence at court.
Should the trial prove successful, there is potential to roll out the cameras to more frontline officers.
